Bikini Series Day8

May 5, 2014

Happy Cinco de Mayo!! It was a little hard to get up this morning. It’s tough when I don’t really get a chance to sleep in on the weekend. It makes me feel like I get no break.

Oh well. I got up and did my neighborhood loop. I actually walked it faster this time. I decided to jog part of the downhill parts because it was harder to slow down. That was all I needed to wake up.

I was happy that both boys were finally healthy again and could go to school. I couldn’t wait to get to the gym after I dropped them off :-) I had a killer leg day. I started with a 1mile run on the treadmill then I hit the weight room. I did a modified version of a leg workout I had done before. Took out exercises I didn’t want to do and changed the number of reps and sets on others. I focused on good form and control.
Leg Press – 15,10,8,6,6,8,10,15
(140, 160, 180, 250) – I increased weight as I lowered my reps and decreased them when I increased reps.
Leg Press Machine – 10 x 10 150lbs – For this one I made sure to get low. I could really feel this in my glutes. That 10th round was killer.
Lying Leg Curls – 10 x 5 50lbs
Glute Pushdowns – 10 x 5 94lbs – this was tough after the leg press machine.
Single Leg Seated Leg Curl to Deadlift –
15 – 10 x 5 (35, 50)
Ended with Excited for Spring Cardio on the stair master. What a sweatfest!!

I was so worn out when I was done. But I was happy. It’s that exhausted from a great workout feeling :-) I walked very slowly for the rest of the day. I had to to do some grocery shopping and it was all in slow motion. Luckily, I had enough time and got most of it done before picking up the boys from school.

I started to feel overwhelmed once the boys got home. I had dinner to prep, homework to help with, and so many things to do before we had to leave for Gio’s game. I totally forgot that I had snack duty so I feel badly that the boys didn’t get a snack tonight :-( I’ll have to make it up to them. It was another rough loss for the boys. And miserable for the parents to watch because it was sooooo cold and windy.

I was really happy that Ben decided to come home and wait for a late dinner instead of picking up fast food. Meals today were pretty good.
M1: egg whites and quinoa
M2: KindBar
M3: Pesto Pasta w/ Chk apple sausage, spinach and Brussel sprouts. I pretty much threw a bunch of leftovers together.
M4: Larabar – at the baseball game
M5: In celebration of Cinco de Mayo, I made tacos. Ben and the boys had the last of the taco shells and I had lettuce tacos. The boys really enjoyed filling their tacos with what they wanted. I put guacamole, quinoa, ground turkey, and tomatoes on mine. I did also have a few tortilla chips to finish off the guacamole. I didn’t want to throw it away.
M6: frozen grapes.
Missed my water goal by 1oz. But it’s pretty close so I’m happy. I’m trying to have at least 1 coconut water during the day as part of my water intake.

After the boys went to bed, I did my 2min plank and the Best Ab Routine circuit. This was the first time I’ve done this workout. It does get those abs burning. The scissor exercise is the hardest one for me, especially today when my legs were super tired.

My kitchen is a mess and there is still 100 things I need to do. But they will have to wait until tomorrow because I am done for today!

Bikini Series Day4

May 1, 2014 –

Woke up sore today. I definitely feel my workout from yesterday. My forearms are sore from last night’s volleyball game. There was one rotation where the guy had some killer serves that were painful. It was really really hard to get out of bed. I had hard time sleeping last night because I was so stuffed up.

But I got out of bed and did the Sunrise Routine for my bootycall. It was perfect. Just what I needed to help me wake up.

After dropping the Seppe off(Gio was still sick and stayed home w/ Ben) , I decided to go to the gym and do Spinning. I haven’t done a class in a while. It wears me out and I don’t have much energy to go and lift afterwards. Spinning is something I Love and Hate at the same time. It is very challenging for me. I love the sweat fest and the music. I hate turning up the resistance. Lol. But I do my best to make sure I am working hard the whole time. I did better than I thought I would. I’ll be trying to go every Thursday for the Bikini Series :-)

I went straight home and got ready to go into to city. Ben had clothes to pick up. Then we dropped off Ben’s car to get the brakes checked and tired rotated. After his car was done, we picked it up and dropped off my car.

I finally had time to the Cowabunga workout after the boys went to bed. This is a tough one. Definitely a good total body workout. I did 2 rounds. I wasn’t feeling too great and I was so congested. I did my 2min plank and called it a night.

My M1 and M2 were pretty much the same because Ben had made breakfast for me when I got home from the gym. And I was really hungry after spin. M4 was a Perfect Fit protein bar. I realized today, just how much of a drug sugar is. I wanted some chocolate or candy. But I’ve been really focusing on staying away from sweets. It’s an addiction that I know is not good for me. I’ve been turning to fruit instead of candy. It’s hard but I’m taking it one day at a time.

The Sunset Challenge for today was to reach out to our friends and let them know how amazing the are. I chose 2 of my best friends that I’ve known for a long time and a new friend. These ladies have had a positive impact on my life and I am so grateful for their friendship.

Bikini Series Day3

April 30, 2014 –

Today was a good day :-) Even though I was’t feeling 100%, I had great workouts. I’m not sure if I’m fighting getting sick or if I am dealing with allergies. I feel tired but that can be due to getting up in the middle of the night dealing with a sick kid and not getting good sleep. I’m congested and that’s about it. My stomach isn’t hurting and I don’t feel nauseous like the boys do. I felt amazing during my workouts.

Started my day with a 5k jog. After I warmed up my legs felt great. I had some shin splints but they are not from running. They are from walking up and down the hills! They didn’t hurt at all on my run.

Gio is still sick so he stayed home with Ben. I dropped Seppe off at school and headed to the gym. I warmed up with a 10min max incline walk then hit the weight room. I did zbodyfitness Better Booty Month3 workout. I haven’t done her workouts in a while so I wanted to see if I had improved. I was able to up the weights on all the exercises. It use to take me at least an hour to complete the workouts but I can get it done in 45-50min now :-)
I followed it with extra leg work on machines:
Leg Extensions 8×4 65lbs
Lying Leg Curls 8×4 55lbs
Leg Press 8×4 180lbs – I’m working on getting to 270 :-)
Glute Pushdowns (on assisted pull-up machine) 10×4 94lbs
Ended with a 20min Interval workout on the stairmaster.

I was pretty worn out by the time I had to pick Seppe up. Had a little nap before helping Seppe with homework and making dinner. I was feeling tired but I still went to volleyball. I look forward to it every week. It’s one night I get to play the sport I love. I don’t think about Ben, the kids, or the million and one things I have to do. I just play. I had a pretty good night too :-) I actually warmed my arm up and I was able to serve overhand most of the night! This is a big deal for me because I have been working so hard to get my overhand serve back. My passing was decent too. It helped that I wore my contacts and could see the ball better :-) Hitting was ok. I just can’t get my timing back. After a tough game of 3 on 3 (that my team won) – I ended the night a little early. It was hot and I was worn out. But I still had the last day if the Spartan 30 Push-ups for 30 Days challenge, Malibooty, and a plank to do. And yes, I did them all after I got home from volleyball. Malibooty fit perfectly for my leg day.

My Meals were ok. It’s seems like there is one meal where I veer off track a bit. M2: was a Mango – it was the last one and I was glad because this last batch of mangos I got wasn’t that great. M3: was broccoli, brwn rice/quinoa mix, and turkey meatballs. It was leftover BBQ Chk but it didn’t taste good after a couple bites so I threw it out and got the meatballs. I didn’t want to take a risk of eating bad food since I was already dealing with sick kids. Lunch was also when I ate some bread from Ben’s Panera lunch and some Veggie Straws. I think I was super hungry after my morning workout.

Before I went to bed I did complete the Sunset challenge. I took a look at my Vision Board and my Create Your Summer List. I let go of my slip ups and focused on what I needed to do to get to my goals. I went to sleep thinking about how strong I was going to feel when I leg pressed 270lbs and how confident I was going to feel in a bikini at the TIU retreat with my fellow TIU sisters :-)

Bikini Series Day2

April 29, 2014 –

Today was tough. Gio woke up in the middle of the night sick. Cleaned up the mess and had a couple hours to get back to sleep. I didn’t want to get up when the alarm went off but I did. I wasn’t feeling that great. Went on my walk and did a loop around the neighborhood. I felt better after the walk. But Gio had a fever and had to stay home so my plan to go to spinning didn’t work out. Took care of him and Ben most of the day – Ben came home early from work because he wasn’t feeling well either :-/ Gio tried to go play his baseball game but we were glad they had enough players that he could sit out. He stayed and cheered on his team and Ben helped coach. I didn’t get a chance to workout until after the boys went to bed.

20140430-142534.jpg

I followed along with the new Bikini Body Workout. I used 8lb dumbbells for everything except the first move. I love this new workout. K&K never fail to make great workouts for the bikini series. Followed it with 30 push-ups and a 2 min plank. I ended with the Sunset Stretch yoga routine. I really need to do yoga more often. It felt so great to stretch out my legs.

I didn’t get a chance to take pics of my M2 and M4. My m2 was mango and m4: was a Luna bar. I did have a handful of m&m’s at Gio’s game though :-/ I need to pack better for his games because it’s easy to go the whole 2-3 hours without eating or drinking anything. Dinner was a Greek Chicken Salad from Panera with no dressing. I love Greek salads and with all the flavors from the olives and feta, I didn’t need dressing. I didn’t quite reach my water goal. I still got 60 oz in but I want to drink more because it helps me feel better throughout the day. Baseball game days are hard. I’m usually so tired that we just pick up dinner or order pizza for the kids. I have to start having dinner already made before the game so we can just come home and eat.

I showered and then took my before pics for the bikini series:

20140430-154242.jpg

I am always hesitant about posting my before pics. I’ve got some toning to do on my midsection. But that will come with a cleaner diet. I’m not too concerned about getting smaller. In fact, I’m trying to get bigger in my legs and arms. I wish I could make my chest grow :-( But I’ve come to accept that this is my body. I have to learn to love my body. I don’t weigh myself so I don’t have a starting weight. I did measure though because I want to put on muscle in certain areas.
Waist – 26″
Hips – 34″
Thighs – 16″
I’m looking forward to seeing the changes in 8 weeks.

Bikini Series Day1

April 28, 2014 –

Today was the first day of this year’s Bikini series :-) It was tough but I got up early and went out for a 20min walk for my bootycall. I walked around the neighborhood. There are lots of steep hills so it gets the heart pumping. It’s been a while since I’ve done a bcwo. I stopped shortly after I learned I had high blood pressure last year. I decided that I needed more rest to help my body. I cut back on my workouts and tried to not stress out as much. But I really want to give this Bikini Series my all so I am making a goal of doing a bcwo 5x a week. I will keep it to a walk or jog and I will be making a huge effort to get to bed earlier so I can make sure I am well rested.

20140428-221308.jpg

Seppe was still sick today so I stayed home with him. After dropping Gio off at school, I did a short upper body workout with my equipment at home:
Pull-Ups (Wide, Narrow, Reverse) 5×2
Band Pull-Downs (Wide, Narrow) 10×2
Upright Row to Deadlift 10, 8, 6 with 15lb DB

I went to the gym after Ben got home from work and did a short leg workout and the new Spring into Summer cardio. I started with a 1mile warmup on the treadmill. Then hit the weight room:
Leg Extensions 65lbs 10×3 Plus a 4th round was a drop set that I started at 75lbs down to 25lbs. I did at least 6reps at each weight.
Deadlift 80lbs 10×3
Leg Press Machine 175lbs 10×3
Seated Leg Curl 55lbs 10×3
I wanted to hit the squat rack but it was taken and I ran out of time.

I did the Spring Into Cardio routine on the stairmill. Wow! What a sweat session!! The stairmaster is probably least favorite cardio machine and is tough for me but it’s so great for the legs!

Did the 3 Moves for Sexy Upper Back 10 x 3, Day28 of 30pushups for 30daya, and 2min plank after putting the boys to bed.

20140428-221649.jpg

Meals were pretty good today. I didn’t have a single piece of candy :-) Lunch was my not so great meal. Ben brought home some L&L. Usually it’s really good but today it wasn’t that great. My favorite meal was dinner with Panko Tilapia, broccoli and roasted Brussel sprouts. I also has some frozen grapes after dinner. I also made my water goal today.

I felt pretty good most of the day. Got a little tired after my morning workout. Took a nap with Seppe on the couch. He started to feel better today and his happy personality is starting to come back. I miss him smiling and being goofy. Glad this was a short sickness even though it was pretty rough for him – and me.

Made my Vision Board for the Sunset Challenge:

The 3 Things I really to Accomplish at the end of 8 weeks:
1. Making Clean, Lean and Green my Lifestyle again
2. Become better at swimming
3. Lift heavier weights

I set out my clothes for tomorrow last night so I’m ready for Day2 :-) Time to get to bed!

Dragging my Feet

BeachBody Day67 (Tuesday)

I had to really fore myself to work out today. Don’t know if it’s because I’m tired or in a bad mood :-/ Feeling a little overwhelmed with Life right now. I’m behind on my blog and doing videos for my boy’s tball games. There is just never enough time.

Picked up the May issue of SELF and some Kind Bars :-)

The one things I don’t budge on is getting my workouts in. I dragged myself out of bed at 6a and did the new Tone It Up Sculpting workout for the Self Magazine Drop10 Diet. I did 12reps x2 sets.

8 New Sculpting Moves

I had some time for myself but instead of spending 2 hours working out I ran errands. I really wanted to just go back to bed and enjoy the peace and quiet but I made myself do my TurboFire workout.

Turbo Fire Day 65 – I may not have wanted to workout but Fire45 always puts me in a good mood. I forgot about my worries and just got a good sweat on. I did all the jumps and did pretty good on the fire drills. I also did Stretch10. It really helps relax me after working out.

The rest of the day wasn’t all that great. I didn’t want to workout anymore. I jut wanted to sleep but there was really no time to. I was just a bit grouchy. I finally went out for a run before dinner. It’s amazing how a good run can clear my mind and get me in a better mood. Followed it with Tone It Up’s new Beach Ball workout. I didn’t have an 8lb ball so I used my 6lb ball and did 15reps x3 sets. As usual, end with a plank – 2min. I’m glad today is over.

My time for the new Beach Ball workout - 3 rounds - 15 reps each.

Meals-
M1: Cinn apple oatmeal with fresh apples, cocoa almond butter, and chia seeds.

Just a small amount of cocoa almond butter gives a hint of chocolate and still lets you taste the Apple Cinnamon flavor :-)

M2: handful of almonds and a small bowl of grapes.

My favorite nut :-)

M3: Avocado Egg Salad with tomato, carrots and cucumber wrapped in lettuce with as slice of mango.

SELF's Avocado Egg Salad recipe in lettuce wraps :-)

M4: Luna bar and a handful of grapes.

M5: Garlic Lime chicken with green beans, quinoa and corn.

New Garlic Lime Chicken recipe I tried.

80 oz. water.

BeachBody Challenge Day24

Had to be up at 5a today in order to get Ben to work by 6:30a since we only had one car until later. The boys did not want to get up and I didn’t blame them. I didn’t want to be up either. We gotta do what we gotta do.  I wasn’t sure how traffic was going to be.  I assumed the worse since it was a Monday so I had the boys get dressed and ready for school in case we wound up stuck in traffic. Luckily, we were just ahead of the rush hour traffic.  It was slower traffic but it moved and we got home in time to relax a little bit.  I decided to take the boys to Starbucks and get them breakfast.  I haven’t gone grocery shopping in a while so my fridge is empty on breakfast items right now :-/

By this time the boys were fully awake with tons of energy.  It was time to drop Gio off at school and take Seppe to speech therapy.  After that we had to make a stop at the post office to drop off a couple pairs of shoes Ben had sold.  I was pretty tired and so was Seppe so we wound up taking a nap :-) I got up to do my workout an hour later but I let Seppe sleep some more because he just looked so comfy and sweet.

——————————- Turbo Fire Day 22 ——————————–

It was Fire 45 today – I doubled checked to make sure that was what I was suppose to be doing :-)  I think I like this one so much because I do so well with the first combo.  It’s so much fun and you can definitely really get into it. There’s a lot of kicks in this one.  My back kicks feel awkward so I have to work on those.  I did the star jumps during the Fire Drill this time. I also did the tuck jumps.  Stretch 10 always helps loosen me up.

I couldn’t decide what I wanted to do for my afternoon workouts.  I was running behind because we had to pick Ben up and drop him off at the repair shop. By the time Gio was done with homework, it was almost time to start cooking dinner. I wound up doing Tone It Up’s Rush Workout (20 Reps each X 3 sets) and M100’s.  Going to do a 2 minute plank before bed.

Meals:

M1: Spinach and egg white breakfast wrap from Starbucks

M2: 1 clementine and a Luna bar

M3: Salad with spinach, chicken, carrots, and avocado. Tiny bit of Raspberry dressing.

Spinach, Chickem, Carrots and Avocado

M4: Almond Nut Thins and Olive Tapenade

16 Almond Nut Thins and Olive Tapenade

M5: Panko Salmon and broccoli

Panko Salmon and Broccoli

Dessert: 5 dark chocolate almonds

80 oz. water

I feel that last week was super stressful and had me completely out of whack with my sleep.  Even though I was able to workout – I know I could have done more if I hadn’t been so tired most of the time.  This week and for the month of March, I really want to focus on pushing myself.  I looked over my workout schedule and rearranged a few things.  My long runs will be Wednesdays and I will adding more toning exercises.  I will be working on doing my bootycall workouts.  It’s starting to get lighter out earlier so I can go out for runs/walks first thing again :-) I also made a goal of drinking at least 80 oz. of water Everyday. I’m going to take it one day at a time. I know if I stay focused, I can reach my goals!

Getting Ripped with Jillian

I did it! I completed Jillian Michael’s Ripped in 30 Dvd!! For the longest time, I was very intimidated by Jillian – even a little scared. lol. She is tough! I’ve tried a few of her workouts onDemand and always got discouraged. Part of it was that I was expecting too much of myself. I really wanted to be able to do the workouts as perfectly as possible. I blamed how tough her workouts were as the reason that I didn’t do well.

The truth was, I wasn’t ready. Physically and most importantly, mentally. I let my self doubts and excuses keep me from giving my workouts everything I had. Once I learned that I was the one who had control over how my workouts went, I had more success with my workouts. I decided in November to challenge myself to completing an entire Jillian Michael’s DVD.  I was very lucky to have a friend who send me Ripped in 30.

I actually started to last week of October with Week 1. I did the workouts for 6 days – taking  one day off (from the DVD but I did do other toning workouts). In between Week 1 and Week 2, I took a break while I was on vacation.  I started right back up  with Week 2 when I got back. I think my body was worn out from intense workouts prior to my vacation so the break actually helped me do better with Week 2.

I  Love this DVD.  I definitely got stronger – especially in my arms. I always started with the modified version or copying Jillian and worked towards the advanced versions.  I didn’t always get to the advanced version by the end of the week but I did do better in all the exercises. Jillian was funny and of course tough, but she was also very inspiring. A lot of of her closing words after each workout really had an effect on me. I’ve gone from fearing her to being inspired by her. I definitely want to make sure that I Show Up in my Life Every Day and give Everything in my Life the same dedication and focus that I give my workouts. Thank You Jillian!

Overview: Here’s a few of my favorite moves and how I did. This is Not the entire workouts – just small bits.

Every workout started with a warm up – then 20 min workout with 3 Circuits – ended with a cool down.

Week 1 – Favorite warm up was the Half Squat with Knee grab. Stretching and stabilizing.

Circuit 1: I stuck with the modified pushups but did the Advanced version of the Skaters. The Hollow Man was pretty tough even the modified version. I think I was able to keep my shoulders for about half the time.

Circuit 2: Love the good morning exercise and the running man. She had me laughing when she called it an “80’s Throwback” and to “Bring out the leg warmers.” I was able to to do the Side Plank with both feet straight but stayed on my elbows.

Circuit 3: I was able to increase my weights on the chair pose with rear fly and do the advanced version of the Single Leg Hop – although I can’t get as high as the girl did. I was able to do the advanced version of the reverse crunch with a regular crunch.

Week2: Love the Toe Tap to the Center and Down for the warm up.

Circuit 1: Pendulum lunges with Serving Biceps was a lot of fun. I worked up to the advanced version. Also did the advanced version of the plank jacks. My goal was to stay in plank for the whole 2 minute cardio session and I did! The opposite leg to opposite arm crunch was great :-)

Circuit 2: Did the advanced version of the Side Lunge with Leg Raise – great booty workout. Crow PushUps were really hard for me to do so I did the modified version. The Ab Extension and Hold were also really hard and I stayed with the modified version.

Circuit 3: Loved the single leg with a curl. I don’t think I got my leg as high as the advanced version but I worked on keeping my leg up and off the ground. The sit-up move at the end was tough. It took me the whole week to finally get the move right.

Week3: It gets intense with week 3. Even the warm up was tough.  The leg raise to knee raise to quad stretch definitely worked my balance.

Circuit 1: The bear crawl and duck walk was killer on my legs! She hammers the legs even more with squat jacks. I was already sweating before this circuit was even over. The plank tucks at the end were tough.

Circuit 2: Even more stability work with single leg squats with curls. The roll ups were a lot of fun to do. I worked up to keeping up with the advanced version :-) My heart raced during the squat jacks. I started with the modified version of the opposite arm opposite leg crunch and leg raise. Adding the weight makes a difference!

Circuit 3: She beat up my arms in this circuit. Pike pushups and single leg dips! I had to stick to the modified version for the split jumps. Those are killer on my knee. Her modification worked great because I still got a good work out without stressing my knees out. The pike ups were pretty hard for me so I kept to the modified version.

Circuit 4: I personally think this is about the same intensity as week 3. They were both pretty  intense workouts. The warm up had my favorite waist line crunches :-)

Circuit 1: Loved the yoga moves in the beginning. Leave it to Jillian to use yoga for strength training :-) Felt like a cheerleader doing the kicking jacks. Plank walks definitely work the core.

Circuit 2: For the pushup and renegade rows, I did as many as I could in plank then dropped to my knees when my arms got tired. Of course there had to burpees! lol. I made myself do the advanced version. I had to stick to the modified version of the v-ups though.

Circuit 3: One of my favorite things is how she always works multiple muscle groups like Single leg bootylifter with chest flies :-) I really like the double jump rope. The ab workout for this circuit is my favorite. It works everything. Sit Up, lay down, leg lift, toe touch, then back down.  I do it all the time outside of this DVD.

Of all the motivational/inspirational things she says in this DVD, what she says at the end of Week 4 really impacted me the most. I would lie there after the workout and listen to what she said every time.  “Inhale the possibilities…” “Exhale the self doubt…”

She also has a meal plan you can follow for the 30 days. I stuck with Tone It Up’s meal plan.

So if you couldn’t tell, I would recommend this DVD for anyone looking to get into shape. I recommend Amazon.com for a good price but you can find it at Target and anywhere workout DVD’s are sold. It’s great for any fitness level. Don’t let her intimidate you. She knows what she’s doing :-)  It’s all about the effort you put in that determines your results.
